Clinton to be offered a dignified exit within days

All signs are indicating that it’s a matter of days now that Barack Obama will be the Democratic nomination. But what to do with Hillary. Obama’s theme of course has been steeped in the idea of change. How can he justify offering the country a change at real change them stock his cabinet with the same old hacks. If he really does have enough support then why bend over for her. Giving her something like Health Secretary seems like too much and after all the years of working to get back into the White House will she really give her best work in a subordinate position. At least there is no serious consideraion of having her as a running mate. A black man and a woman on the same ticket would be way too much for any change at winning in November. Perhaps having her in the cabinet is a bad idea. Clinton alongside Joe Bidon and John Edwards could make for a pretty strong group. They would certainly look strong compared to the neo-cons that had been running things.

I wonder if anybody would have asked Mrs. Clinton a years ago, the Mrs. Clinton that had awesome name recognition, a few truckloads of cash and contacts up the wazoo, is she could foresee blowing 150 million and then have to figure out what ‘other’ job she wanted. What she should have seen coming was that after eight years of Bushie, people would be eager for real change. She needed to perhaps play up being female (that would certainly be a change) and other ideas that would have separated herself from the old guard. She needed to prove that she was different. Promoting experience and her years in Washington and in the White house were probably not the best associations to brand in delegates minds. It will interesting to see what role she ends up playing in government (and how dignified her exit really will be) assuming Obama can beat McCain.
