The whole process is already in the hands of those who are not interested in rational ideas and arguments. It is in the hands of climatologists and other related scientists who are highly motivated to look in one direction only because a large number of academic careers has evolved around the idea of man-made global warming.
- Vaclav Klaus
It seems that as of late talk in the media of global warming and its affects around the world has died off slightly, at least compared to the attention it was getting when Al Gore’s film came out, but Vaclav Klaus, the president of the Czech Republic, is about to change all that. His new book called Blue Planet in Green Shackles is on its way to bookstores and it’ll surely make a wave or two.
While checking out some details of the book I saw that apparently at some point Vaclav Klaus states that “the largest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy, and prosperity at the end of the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st century is no longer socialism, it is, instead, the ambitious, arrogant, unscrupulous ideology of environmentalism.” I’m sure that’ll rustle a few feathers, but that’s ok. That’s better than ok. That’s needed.
When Gore’s film came out a couple years ago so many people got behind it and grasped on for dear life as if it were the most important film released in decades. It broadcast a voice that some citizens, celebrities and politicians could relate to but now it seems that some of the facts put forth in the film are being questioned. Even Gore’s reasons for making such a film have received some attention, especially after the release of a report detailing how much energy Mr. Gore is associated with using even after his film boasting Earth’s dire need for humans to self impose personal sacrifice in their daily lives hit many a local cineplex.
Alternative energy is all well and good, as is living more environmentally friendly and cutting down on pollution, but so are alternative perspectives. There’s a documentary available for free viewing online called The Great Global Warming Swindle and it boasts some points that are at least worth considering and looking into. If there’s any truth to what’s stated, especially with regards to how some scientists with alternative theories have been dealt with, perhaps we really are living in a state of fear. Not fear of a planet that will eventually get sick of us and shake us off like a fly pestering a horse, but fear for an imagined idea used by some powerful people to manipulate the masses. Michael Crichton doesn’t have much to prove so if he’s not happy with some of the ‘facts’ that are thrown around out there, enough to write a book about it and endure personal attacks for his views, then I’m more than willing to at least look at the other side of this issue. Where’s the harm in that?
In a hundred years I wonder which film on climate change will be looked upon as something Fritz Hippler would be proud of. The one with the guy who gazes pensively out the window of a limo while thinking about growing up on a cow farm, or the other one? In the meantime we’ll have Vaclav Klaus’ book to discuss.
